'Game Of Thrones' Blu-Ray Announced, Season Three Rumors Abound
Fans of Westeros and the world beyond the Narrow Sea, start getting excited for spring, because "Game of Thrones" season one is coming to DVD and Blu-Ray on March 6. Entertainment Weekly has the whole scoop on the upcoming home video release of HBO's hit show, including the whole slew of special features that will be included. Our favorites are definitely "Creating the Dothraki Language" and "From the Book to the Screen," as well as the audio commentaries from David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, George R.R. Martin, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, and more. The DVD will cost $59.99, and Blu-Ray will clock in at $79.98. Sounds like a pre-order Christmas present is in demand. And now, prepare yourself, because the best rumor we've heard all day is after the jump. Martin, Benioff and Weiss, and basically anyone who cares about "Game of Thrones" and has read the books (read: us) have all been lamenting for a while now about the fact it will be an impossible task to bring the third book in the series, "A Storm of Swords," to the small screen with just a 10 episode order. Well, HBO might have found a really good solution for that. Winter Is Coming has heard from multiple sources that HBO might renew the series for two seasons shot back-to-back for "A Storm of Swords." The plan has already been to cover "ASoS" in more than one season, but this seems like a lot smarter of an option than having two separate shoots. The cast would be filming for nine months, but at least this will prevent the young children from aging too much when not that much time passes in the books. Unfortunately, this likely doesn't mean the seasons will be aired back-to-back, much to our chagrin. Still, considering the fact "ASoS" was released as two separate books in many parts of the world, it is a relief to hear that HBO is considering the idea of spreading the story out over two full seasons. Are you planning on getting the "Game of Thrones" Blu-Ray or DVD when it hits stores? Would you like "A Storm of Swords" to be split into two seasons? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!

Lights, Camera, Accident! 20 Hollywood Stunts Gone Wrong
As most of us prepare to give thanks, some among us -- particularly young and up-and-coming film composers -- are saying please, as in, "Please Academy, give us a chance!"our editor recommendsFEINBERG FORECAST: 'The Artist,' 'The Descendants,' 'The Help' Atop Best Pic FieldTo Be An Oscars Winner, Dress Like One at the GlobesTHR Poll: Oscar Viewers Prefer Eddie Murphy Over Billy Crystal as Show Host Why? Because the Academy permits one individual to be nominated for more than one film in its best original score category -- unlike its acting categories, but like its directing and other technical categories -- and the Academy's music branch, which determines the category's nominees, has shown as much of a tendency as any branch to take advantage of that option. The result, over the last few decades, has been that veteran big-name composers have wound up with multiple nods on a fairly regular basis, while lesser-known emerging talent have struggled to get their moment in the sun. PHOTOS: Backstage at the 83rd Academy Awards This year could prove to be a tipping point for things, with a number of established veterans each in the running for multiple scores opposite a number of very worthy newcomers. John Williams, arguably the greatest living film composer -- he has scored an unbelievable 40 best original score nominations, nine of which have resulted in Oscars -- has both War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin in the running this year, and will almost surely be nominated for both. He alone has had two nods in one year on eight previous occasions that came in four different decades: 1969 (The Reivers and Goodbye, Mr. Chips), 1972 (Images and The Poseidon Adventure), 1977 (Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Star Wars), 1984 (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The River), 1987 (Empire of the Sun and The Witches of Eastwick), 1989 (Born on the Fourth of July and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade), and 2001 (A.I.: Artifical Intelligence and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), and 2005 (Memoirs of a Geisha and Munich). Then, there's Alexandre Desplat, who has been nominated four times in the last five years (but has yet to win), who has churned out four major scores this year, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Ides of March, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, and A Better Life; Howard Shore, who has been nominated and won twice in the past decade, who has both Hugo and A Dangerous Method; and Alberto Iglesias, who has been nominated twice in the past decade (but has yet to win), who has both Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Skin I Live In. PHOTOS: Oscar Show Moments After those four composers alone are accounted for, there may not be any space left in the category for anyone else! Nobody is saying that Williams or the others should do what Oprah Winfrey did in 2000 -- after racking up 39 Emmys, plus a lifetime achievement award, she withdrew her name from future consideration -- although it's worth noting that that is precisely what composer Hans Zimmer, an eight-time nominee who won for The Lion King (1994), did this year, even though he would have had at nods for four films, Rango, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. But some young composers and publicists with whom I have spoken do feel that it would be fairer -- and make it likelier that newer and/or never-before-nominated talent like Ludovic Bource (The Artist), Cliff Martinez (Drive, Contagion, The Lincoln Lawyer), Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood (We Need to Talk About Kevin), Brian Byrne (Albert Nobbs), David Wingo (Take Shelter), Jonsi (We Bought a Zoo), and Nathan Larson (Margin Call) would receive some attention -- if the Academy adopted the same rule for best original score and other technical categories that it applies to the acting branches. In individuals days, an individual named Jesse Ashlock is mentioned to own received the reins of Radar because the organization's new leader. Area filed an unexpected emergency motion to dismiss the private personal bankruptcy filing as Ashlock fought against against back, creating minutes within the allegedly concocted board meeting, additionally to creating representations the organization needed protection because of suit and owed rent. Ashlock is mentioned to own switched up at Radar's office with "an apparent thug" along with you in the mentioned try to consider physical getting the business. Police force were contacted, and before coming, Ashlock and also the connect "retreated." But Area states the violence ongoing through "late-evening phone calls and tacitly menacing emails." Area states he got the bankruptcyfiling overlooked carrying out a November 15th hearing, but that "incredibly, later that round-the-clock, accused...filed another personal personal bankruptcy petition allegedly regarding Radar Pictures." The next morning, the judge is mentioned to own overlooked the petition and precluded anymore proclaiming 180 days until possession issues around the organization may be resolved. Now, Area, represented by Jonathan Freund, is seeking an injunction preventing the accused from taking further action over Radar Pictures, including proclaiming personal personal bankruptcy. He wants a judgment stating his possession in the corporation in addition to demands punitive damages having a minimum of $ten million for conspiracy, promissory fraud, abuse of process of fiduciary duty. We attempted to make contact with co-defendantJohn J. Gazelin, the attorney who represented Radar inside the original personal personal bankruptcy filing. Alex Lacamoire Brings It Together for 'Bring It On: The Musical'
Alex Lacamoire Brings It Together for 'Bring It On: The Musical' By Melinda Loewenstein November 10, 2011 Photo by Ryan Miller Musical theater fans can list their favorite composers and lyricists by name, and performers probably have a wish list of potential musical collaborators, but members of either group may not be as aware of the important role musical supervisors play in bringing all the musical elements together behind the scenes. Alex Lacamoire, the music supervisor on the new " Bring It On: The Musical" (running Oct. 30 to Dec. 10 at the Ahmanson Theatre), describes his job as the "traffic control center of the music in the show." Lacamoire wears multiple hats on the show, loosely based on the 2000 cheerleading film, also serving as co-arranger and co-orchestrator. The show features a book by Jeff Whitty ("Avenue Q"), music by Lin-Manuel Miranda ("In the Heights") and Tom Kitt ("Next to Normal"), and lyrics by Miranda and Amanda Green ("High Fidelity"). Lacamoire has arranged music for such Broadway hits as "Wicked," "Legally Blonde," and "In the Heights," for which he won a 2008 Tony Award for best orchestrations.Music has always been a part of his life. "I've been told stories that even when I was 2 years old, I would sit in front of the stereo speaker and just stare at the speaker and be transfixed by music," he recalls. "So this is definitely something that I feel like I was born to do." Ironically, "What I Was Born to Do" is the title of "Bring It" 's first song. Lacamoire has been playing piano since age 4 and has always loved all styles of music. That love for music intertwined with a love for the theater in high school when he was called on to join the band for a production of "Bye Bye Birdie." He says, "I loved the music of theater, I loved the people in it, I loved the camaraderie of the people involved, I loved the outgoingness of the people who performed it, so theater is always something I've gravitated towards, and I just found out by the time I was in high school and college that it was something that I had a knack for."At Berklee College of Music, he studied different styles of music, which paved the way for a versatile career. "All the things I've done are very different, but I feel very lucky that these are all styles that I feel like I either know about or have studied or just love," he explains. "I love all kinds of music. I feel lucky that I've learned just enough about all these styles of music that I'm able to create music that references these styles when needed."Lacamoire has been involved with "Bring It On" since the beginning of its development process. He'd worked with director and choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler on "In the Heights" and "9 to 5." During the latter show, they forged a working relationship, so when Blankenbuehler was hired to direct and choreograph "Bring It On," he brought on Lacamoire. "So basically I got on the project because I had worked with Andy and we had worked so well together," says Lacamoire. "Basically anything that Andy does from here on out, he says he will hire me for anything he does, which is great."As music supervisor, Lacamoire has also been involved in the casting process for both "In the Heights" and "Bring It On." Although his role is to assess the vocal abilities of those auditioning, he also takes the bigger picture into consideration. He notes, "If there's someone that really inhabits the role from an acting perspective and has the look and the feel that we're looking foreven if they aren't the best voice we've ever heardI still know that the other things that they have on the table are worth going for, and their voice can either be worked on by me or I can find ways to make the song fit better in their voice." Dancing Challenges The demanding choreography in "Bring It On" posed unique casting challenges. "You have to be at a high level of performance just to be able to execute the moves that [Blankenbuehler] crafts," Lacamoire says. Because of this degree of difficulty, the productions needed professional cheerleaders, but most didn't have musical theater experience. For many of the cheerleaders, their audition was the first time they'd sung in public. This created a challenge for Lacamoire because he had to "determine whether or not someone had the ability to sing and belt, to make sure they had pitch, to make sure they had rhythm. Because sometimes people have that, but you wouldn't know it." To complicate matters, because they were cheerleaders, they often didn't have a book of songs. "So Andy came up with a brilliant idea, which is when we have auditions we have a stack of top songs that these cheerleaders probably know and that they can sing for us," says Lacamoire. The cheerleaders were given songs such as "This Love" by Maroon 5, "Ordinary People" by John Legend, or "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson. Then Lacamoire would work with them for five minutes on just the chorus, encouraging and nurturing their natural singing abilities, to find skilled cheerleaders who also had the necessary vocal abilities.Lacamoire really liked the development process, because he felt that he was given a lot of input on the vocal arrangements, which he worked on with Kitt. "Because Andy is very big on musical transitions and using music and dance to get from point A to B in the story," he says, "I ended up creating a lot of transitional cues that happened in the show." For the end of Act 1, Lacamoire created the rhythmic melody for Kitt to use in creating the notes for the song. He was also able to "string together" the different sections that Miranda had written for the song "Saturday Night Jackson" in a way that made the story make sense for Blankenbuehler. Because of the dance-intensive nature of the show, Lacamoire had to simplify the harmonies to make them as easy as possible. "So normally people might write for four-part harmony," he continues, "[but] there are a lot of times in the show where we have two-part harmony just because we have to factor in that we're losing half the voices because they are doing stunts onstage." Knowing that he "had input on the way a song feels and what the groove is and what it does and whether it's going to make someone tap their foot or whether it's going to make someone excited or whether it's going to move the story further" is rewarding to Lacamoire. He acknowledges that his role is behind the scenes but is also aware that even though people may not notice what he has contributed to a song, "if it wasn't there, they would notice it." Alex Lacamoire Brings It Together for 'Bring It On: The Musical' By Melinda Loewenstein November 10, 2011 PHOTO CREDIT Ryan Miller Musical theater fans can list their favorite composers and lyricists by name, and performers probably have a wish list of potential musical collaborators, but members of either group may not be as aware of the important role musical supervisors play in bringing all the musical elements together behind the scenes. Alex Lacamoire, the music supervisor on the new "Bring It On: The Musical" (running Oct. Cinemax topper's career led by military service
NelsonBill Nelson, chairman and Boss of Cinemax, is really a Vietnam combat veteran who offered using the 2/502nd Infantry from the 101st Airborne Division.Serving in uniform is really a existence-altering experience.Training for this, planning for this and going through it changes your point of view on a lot of things. The vital problem, In my opinion, is it closes a bond with individuals who are around you. It closes within the perception of togetherness, working together and selflessness. It is a somewhat dramatic transition from "me" to "we," and also the military is the greatest educational institution to train that. It's a permanent and positive enhancement to a person's character. In my opinion that the enterprise are only able to achieve its finest potential having a team attitude. So at Cinemax, I have spent my 27 years attempting to lead to that particular concept, and also the whole executive team and staff, through towards the basic level, has accepted that culture. It's a culture of collective spirit, collective knowledge, collective instinct and strategy. In my opinion the insight, ability and determination to complete on that, for me personally, are insights of time within the military.I must observe that the unemployment rate for the coming back veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan is running around 30%, or about triple the nation's average. In my opinion that each company should concentrate on employing veterans since it is the best factor to complete, and since it is a great business decision. Whenever you work with a veteran, you're employing somebody that is trained, motivated, loyal, has leadership abilities, knows business structure, is effective pressurized and fits well right into a team atmosphere.Veterans are team gamers. They've been educated to be. Veterans naturally bring an optimistic, team-oriented influence to the operating number of gifted people. So, employing veterans isn't just a moral and loyal obligation, it's a wise business decision too. Contact Variety Staff at news@variety.com

Steve Guttenberg Talks Misdirection, 'Party Down,' and Brotherly Love
Steve Guttenberg Talks Misdirection, 'Party Down,' and Brotherly Love By Daniel Holloway November 4, 2011 Photo by Getty Images Steve Guttenberg Steve Guttenberg likes to get to the theater early. Most days, since previews for "Relatively Speaking" began in September at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre, Guttenberg arrives a few hours before the curtain. He meditates, warms up his voice, and spends some time wandering the auditorium. Eventually he makes his way to the back row of the balcony and has a seat. "It's craft," the actor says. "The craft part of it is great. There is a film craft, but theater is a different kind of craft."For most of his career, Guttenberg has been a film actor, best known for his work in hit 1980s movies such as "Cocoon," "3 Men and a Baby," and the "Police Academy" series. This fall he takes the stage in "Relatively Speaking," a collection of three one-act plays, each written by a scribe who, like Guttenberg, is most identified with screen work but has done his or her fair share of theater: Ethan Coen, Elaine May, and Woody Allen. Guttenberg takes the lead in the final piece of the trifecta, Allen's "Honeymoon Motel," which begins with a middle-aged man in a tuxedo and a bridal gownclad younger woman bursting excitedly into a hotel room, ready for some post-ceremony nookie. But not all is as it appears, and soon the suite is filled to bursting with family members, a rabbi, and a pizza delivery man, all arguing over the relationship between Jerry (Guttenberg) and Nina (Ari Graynor). This isn't Guttenberg's first time on Broadwayhe took over for Timothy Hutton in the early-1990s production of "Prelude to a Kiss" at the Helen Hayes Theatrebut it is his first time working with Allen and director John Turturro, both of whom he praises highly. "We rehearsed every day with John, and Woody was there for a lot of the rehearsals," he says. "We started in August, and it's just one of the best creative experiences I ever had."1. He's a Magician's Apprentice (Sort Of). "Woody is one of the masters of all time of misdirection," Guttenberg says. He's talking about the moment a few minutes into the play whenspoiler alertit's revealed that Jerry isn't the groom but rather the groom's stepfather, who interrupted the ceremony to declare his love for the bride and found those feelings requited. "It's a great respect to the audience to give them such misdirection. I think from his days being a magician, he loves magic. When you misdirect people, people love it." Like in a magic show, the moment of the reveal in "Honeymoon" is a crowd pleaser, drawing boisterous response from the audience. But earning that response requires careful work by Guttenberg and Graynor in those first few minutes. "The greatest respect I can give the audience is to fool them that we're married," he says. "I love playing it. The greatest part of any character is when you can play it honestly. He's not lying at all to the audience. I never tell the audience what's going on. I just am in love with this girl. So when it's revealed, it's a wonderful part to play because I'm playing the truth all the time."2. He Loves a Good 'Male Romantic Scene.' The revelation about Jerry and Nina's relationship comes while Nina is offstage, donning some wedding-night lingerie. Jerry hears a knockit's more like a set-rattling poundon the door and answers it to find his friend Eddie (Grant Shaud), who, in confronting Jerry, informs the audience of the truth. "Grant and I are friends, and when I start connecting with him it's great," he says. "I love all kinds of work, but there's something great about doing a buddy scene. It's the male romantic scene." Guttenberg's career picked up steam in 1982, when he starred in one of the quintessential buddy movies of that era, Barry Levinson's "Diner." He cites it as one of a list of great films that showcase the power of bro-love. "You love your buddy," he says. "There's nothing better. 'The Magnificent Seven,' 'The Great Escape,' 'Diner.' Buddy movies. Guys talking. So I love that scene with Grant."3. He's Serious About Stage and Screen. "You approach the work the same," Guttenberg says of shifting gears from screen to stage. "You just get serious about it." Not that the mediums don't come with their own challenges. For Guttenberg, the biggest difference is the most obviousthe night-after-night nature of theater versus the stop-start way of film and television. "When you're in a film, you get it right that day and then you move on," he says. "[Onstage] it's a different timing. You're making the timing, not the editoralthough you can make your own timing in films, but sometimes it doesn't work and the editor makes it work, or it works and the editor does something that makes you look bad."4. He Likes to Party Down. Younger audiences may know Guttenberg best from his appearance in the Starz series "Party Down," a comedy about a group of Los Angeles cater-waiters. The series lasted only two seasons, but it has developed a cult following. The season 2 episode "Steve Guttenberg's Birthday," in which the cast spends a day hanging out with the man himself, is considered a fan favorite. Guttenberg had worked with series star Adam Scott on several episodes of "Veronica Mars" years earlier. When he spotted Scott in a Times Square ad for the then-new "Party Down," he left his friend a phone message congratulating him on the show. "He called me back and said, 'Hey, we're thinking about doing a show on you.' So I said, 'Oh great.' Eventually he sent [the script] to me, and I said, 'Oh, this'll be great.' " In the episode, Guttenberg acts as a sort of friendly benefactor, opening his lavish home to the caterers and offering plenty of booze and career-nurturing advice. He says that the humor comes from how true the situation is. "Most of the time when you have somebody who is a big star, they're usually very nice people and very grateful people," he says. "You know, the attention and the money they receive and the salaries they receive are ridiculous. They're way overpaid. There are a lot of big stars that when they're around people that they can pamper a little bit, they love it."5. There are Things He Can't Talk About. Next up for Guttenberg is "A Novel Romance," an indie film he stars in and co-produced, which will open in limited release this month. But there's one potential project he won't discuss: a "Police Academy" sequel, about which rumors have circulated for years. "I know they're developing a script," he says. If a project develops, will he do it? "I can't talk about that." America online Shares Rise Greater Than 10% Early Wednesday
Incorporated in YouTube's new acquisition of entertainment channels, News Corp-possessed IGN Entertainment has became a member of with Elisabeth Murdoch's Shine Group company Reveille to develop a completely new slate of broadcast-quality shows specific within the growing gaming demographic. The series, which will change from short-format to television-length, will debut noisy . 2012 on START, YouTube's new gaming funnel produced by IGN.our editor recommendsAnalyst: YouTube Channels No Immediate Threat to Entertainment CompaniesYouTube Announces TV Initiative With 100 Niche Channels IGN has attracted over 1 billion sights in the current YouTube options, but is becoming taking production to a different step while using intent of seeing some content migrate beyond the Internet. START will launch with new shows like Celebrity Assassin, IGN Professional Gaming, The Next Game Boss and Game Over. Roy Bahat, leader of IGN Entertainment, talks about Come from this exclusive interview. The Hollywood Reporter: Exactly what are your plans with START? Roy Bahat: We're feeling there is a gap in entertaining content about games around the silver screen. Games would be the primary leisure activity for males more youthful than 35. 90-one percent of babies more youthful than 17 play games. We're feeling that games, just like a genre, needs to be represented with any particular item on tv around sports, music, film and sci-fi and fantasy. There has to be hit television content about games which we simply look at this YouTube funnel just like a great chance to experiment and appearance for the. THR: Which type of length are you currently presently searching at with this type of content? Bahat: The area will most likely be in addition to that that you simply typically might see for your Web completely around what might use television. A couple of from the stuff will most likely be seven, eight minutes extended. A variety of it might be twenty-two minutes extended in addition to longer. THR: What's the rollout plan if this involves when people would start to see content? Bahat: In the beginning, that's something we're doing along with YouTube. As soon as the channels unveil we'll be there together. It's in the beginning in the new twelve several weeks, basically. THR: What shows are you currently beginning with? Bahat: The Next Game Boss competition series is a factor we will probably expand on once we launch. It provides a number of episodes on IGN already which is possible demonstrate that allows gamers to acquire a job inside the gaming industry. We're doing a little of games news and such things as by utilizing Game Over, it's just not necessarily the predominant factor round the funnel. It'll be just incorporated among other activities like Celebrity Assassin, where stars get a game title title controller and discuss their new projects, and IGN Professional League, which will focus on eSports. THR: For games news, can it be similar to that which you see on the internet today? Bahat: It is really an extended version from the products we view on the internet probably with somewhat different pacing. We could be basically assuming you're watching it around the silver screen and leaning back. We will try to focus on which causes it to be that kind of content. THR: Which kind of production quality will these shows have? Bahat: One factor we now have attempted very hard to complete at IGN is do stuff that's quick and then we can capture footage at work when somebody desires to lick about a game title title or say something funny, but doing the work on quality that seems great. What's great is always that every year the primary difference from the Switch Cam then one that will take reasonably well-lit HD video, is actually much less large any more. The intent is perfect for all of this to look great to make sure that the information makes brands feel relaxed associating their title with. That is not the situation with user-created content available or of all the stuff that's shot at lower production quality. That isn't saying we will probably have ten-person deckie's. We're just likely to give consideration to doing items that look good, but they're easily to accomplish this brands may decide to link with. THR: How will you look at this content different from what we view Machinima use YouTube lately? Bahat: We now have also labored cautiously with YouTube. There exists a billion sights so far online. I'd say Youtube can be a platform that has been your pretty fair way wonderful partners. The information that YouTube is becoming funding will most likely be different then everything that's presently round the platform because of there being apt to be more dollars beginning the information. Meaning you will probably see throughout these channels a more compact quantity of the only real content creator doing action commentary plus much more items that have Hollywood-quality talent concentrating on them. There's great stuff being produced by sole independent content males which we like coping with them, however i think you'll visit a different sort of professional quality of talent in the office. THR: That are you coping with from Hollywood on these projects? Bahat: Our partner in creating this funnel is Shine Group and they're the producers in the Office, Master Chef as well as the Finest Loser. Our intent in by doing this wound up being to create television quality content with this chance. Related Subjects YouTube IGN
